It’s definitely week by week but on average it’s somewhere around 100 people per month maybe down to 75 every so often. For a major to hire that many people is a month is pretty insane still. They are doing it for obvious reason (plus we will see what happens come Jan when the legacies hire again) according to the last set of numbers we were on track to hire more than 1000 pilot by year end. To me that still sounds like a lot and it says to me people are still coming in the door. Even if they leave during training they still showed up despite the training pay and if they went through the process of doing everything they need to prior to day one and just didn’t show up, they still planned to come despite training pay. It’s other factors that have lead people to quit during training or not show up. If you get a call from a legacy who can blame you. As of now we don’t compete with legacies despite the fact some people think we do or should. If you really want to make this a destination airline and stop people from leaving there are many other factors affecting people decision to leave or not show up besides training pay. Now if the applications stop that’s a different story.
United has hired close to 2500 pilots if not more this year alone.
