Thanks for all the info! PS…and don’t say go to the airlines- I fly for fun, getting paid is a bonus!
Not sure the current time frame for everything, perhaps a recent hire could chime in. I wouldn’t apply until you have exactly what is required on the website. Things may have changed but it was once viewed as wasting HR’s time if you’re not qualified.

As far as other employers I try to do right by everyone, but an employer will not hesitate to layoff a pilot when they’re no longer needed, and it’s happened to many of us on more than one occasion. Many of us from the NJ “team” or “family” were cast aside for 5 years. So with that said don’t put off a good opportunity because you feel bad an employer paid for a recurrent. As they tell us, “it’s just business.”

You can find all the NJ vs airline debate on here, but if this is the type of flying you like go for it. But this type of flying is work and requires skills beyond the typical airline pilot. While enjoyable some days, It is definitely not a fly for fun job, you will routinely work 12-14 hour days with 11-12 hours off. As with any profession, if you come show up with a mindset of a professional seeking to be paid accordingly.
