Wrong. Just plane (see what I did there) wrong. A yes vote is not a resounding endorsement of the deal. Getting a majority vote for something has never meant it was "good" or "right". Think back to the last time the president you wanted to win, lost. Doesn't matter who. The majority picked the other guy. Was that the right choice?

There is a subset of yes voters who think we COULD and SHOULD have done better, with the leverage we had. We didn't even take this to the labor dispute we were told to prepare for. They believe we gave up before the real fight even started, but now had a choice to make with shifted timeline and the knowledge that their peers had low expectations and low survey responses.

I ACCEPT the result. I also want the group and the union to learn from it. The union should have educated the group BEFORE surveys about where the going market rate for pilots was going, and what the actual VALUE of profit sharing is, in other words what the actual size of the average bonus checks our peers get. Not just an obscure formula that means nothing to those who can't read a balance sheet. They also should have re-polled after ALK and DL had TAs.

Telling those with the highest expectations to leave has never been the path to a top-of-the-industry contract. Be better than that.
