CFIT implies they flew it into the ground. As opposed to mechanical, windshear, or severe thermal disruption which can be caused by a big fire.
CFIt would be much more understandable, and is an obvious occupational hazard, when fire-fighting. As opposed to just not knowing where you are in relation to a mountain at night.
