I realize if you request, you have to pay for hotel, no car, etc... but what about the flying part?
Where do I start...
Generally speaking, they will not approve an out of base reserve request unless they have posted a need for online. There hasn't been a posted need in MSP for some time now and the FO's I fly with that are on reserve say they are rarely flying. So the grass isn't any greener here in MSP. Maybe MEM would be a better place to go?
Out of base reserve,
regardless of pilot requested or not, pays per diem 24/7, hotel and positive space travel to and from your domicile and the out of base domicile.
Hope that helps.
