FC has it right. The company doesn’t care about throwing the pilots a few more peanuts to fly that extra leg. Their pain point is when a pilot becomes unavailable. THAT hurts them. I say every rest period must be at least as long as the preceding duty period. That will fix 90% of the scheduling issues immediately. They’ll have to decide if they want you “available” today or tomorrow.
I don't disagree at all. In fact, I agree 100%. I am playing devil's advocate as the company's answer to pilot pay issues was FDP. It looked like a big raise but really was only to keep the metal moving and keep you happy while the metal moved. Clearly, for you guys, the honeymoon phase of FDP is over and while pilots in high FDP fleets have it better financially, it doesn't fix the cultural scheduling practices that plague NJA, in fact, it exacerbates it.
It is an uphill battle to fix those issues even during section 6 negotiations, but even more challenging given the current ability (or lack thereof) to negotiate. Crossing my fingers that you guys are unified enough to get it done, that's for sure!
