I say every rest period must be at least as long as the preceding duty period. That will fix 90% of the scheduling issues immediately. They’ll have to decide if they want you “available” today or tomorrow.

I've been saying this for a decade. Don't forget, rounded UP to the next whole hour. 10:15 of duty? Minimum 11:00 off.
