It all depends on the transition.

Delta didn't make anything right for the DGI pilots at 9E who were waiting on class dates when Covid hit, because they didn't have to. There was no transition. By the time Covid was done, the flow was in place, and DGI just went away.

The ZW pilots will be fine. The Aviate transition there will be that ZW captains go at a fast enough rate to cripple ZW but at a slow enough rate that AA can't sue for inteference. But that's about killing ZW, not Aviate being fair.

The bottom line: non-contractual career incentives can go away at any time, fair or not fair.
