I was in the cadet program. I'd recommend it. No commitment to Republic; you don't have to work for them at all. At one point they were my first choice and I interviewed to be a cadet. They gave me priority for a class date of my choice and even let me go to CTP a month early. I had to stay at my old job until a certain date but I wanted to hit the ground running so I went to CTP during my vacation. Fast forward to 2 weeks before my class date and they postponed it 2 months. Fast forward to 2 weeks before that and they called again to postpone indefinitely. They were very clear that I didn't owe them anything and even more clear that they didn't owe me anything. I decided not to wait for them and went to CommuteAir instead.

The Republic cadet program, IMO, has the best advantage-gained-to-committment-made ratio of any of the cadet programs. You interview with them, and they give you a CJO and preferential scheduling in exchange for literally nothing on your end. No reason not to do it. Even if Republic isn't your first choice now, you never know who might go bottom up, who might close the base you want, or who just plain isn't hiring when it's your time.
