The company has worked with the FAA to make it very clear what the pilots are responsible for.
Again this company has changed a lot since you’ve been here. They are a lot more focused and have their ducks in a row now for everything.

If you're saying all you do on your preflight are the items on your manual, you should get a 709 ride and get all your certificates pulled.
"Sir, there was a dead body hanging from the vertical stabilizer but it wasn't in the preflight so I didn't care".
Read the definition of "check" on your manual. On pretty much every Part 25 airplane, paint chips have to be checked by a mechanic to make sure they are of size and shape that is acceptable.
