Excellent points ---- especially the second.

It seems to be a win-win for all --- these leave of absence requests would be completely voluntary --- and I know of two 727 guys over the past 2 years (a FO & SO) that have asked and been denied.

They wanted to pursue non-flying related outside business opportunities.

Isn't this a common practice among flight attendants at many of the pax carriers? (...I believe NWA allowed many flight attendants to do this voluntarily to help themselves, their families, and others junior to them).

If this is truly a zero-cost/low-cost option it should be seriously considered.
