What was the date on that article?? Zero plans to phase out the fleet that early. They're in the middle of bringing back the last ~15 or so more out of storage so soon we'll be flying every single one we've got that isn't being parted out. Last I heard was possibly retiring the fleet around 2030, and that will probably slip further back barring another black swan event. We're so desperate to get seats into the system that we're flying the Lion Air 737-900s without wifi, IFE, or the full cabin retrofit.
And with only 6 FC seats, and one row of C+. They are pretty crazy to look at, but they are throwing them in a lot of short high density routes, so it’s working. They have lots of jump seats though! Works nice for commuters.
