really pulling for united pilots but even while classes might be “full” and people coming in droves I’m positive I’m not the only one passing on united. It’s not for the current contract but the way negotiations have played out. It speaks volume on management and what they think of their pilot group and what they want for the airline. I’ll stay at my current carrier over United and the direction management is steering the company. They’re going to miss out on a lot of quality candidates that would have otherwise preferred united. Hard to watch from the outside.
There is pressure, but it isn’t absolute. Kirby knows that AA and DL can only hire so many people, and as long as we’re still better than the LCC’s, classes will have bodies in the seats. The biggest pressure is having a pilot group who is angry about being the worst among the legacies. Oscar did a decent job of trying to heal the scars from the past, especially with the LUAL side considering what they had been through. If Kirby continues to delay a deal, those scars will be opened further than they already have been. He knows that the busy summer schedule could be a train wreck with a ****ed off pilot group.
