I would prefer that it didn't take chaos to convince the company to pay up, but they don't seem to be willing without it. This group takes a long time to get revved up so maybe the company will come to their senses and pay up before it gets really ugly, but I wouldn't bet on it. This next busy season will likely be quite painful for everyone. I might have more reservations about it if I had any doubt that the company couldn't afford to pay up, much, much more than the Last Best Offer and still have a very healthy profit.

I really don't relish chaos. I want things to work smoothly. I liked it when the company was happy to work with the union. When they stopped being partners with the union (think crew food and hotels), my views started to change. I am a realist and realize that the only way they will pay is pain. I don't find enjoyment in the process. I don't like seeing disappointed customers. I don't like having to sacrifice now to try to improve things later. I don't like when the company takes hostages. I don't like when we drive billboard vans here and there to cause embarrassment. It isn't fun for me, but I accept that our tool box is extremely restricted via laws that do not favor labor and that these are the tools we have. We will just have to use the sledge hammer to drive in those finishing nails and then clean up the mess with some duct tape. If you have some other way to make it happen that isn't ugly, please share it so that we can do it differently. That would make me happy.
