I honestly don’t think that Mesa is going anywhere, but who exactly would be picking up the pilots if they did? United doesn’t want that many regional airplanes to be suddenly unmanned, nor do they want to wait long enough for someone else to hire and train pilots to take over that flying. They’ll just subsidize who ever they need to in order to keep the planes flying.
Other regionals, with planes parked, would be in position to hire pilots, pick up additional flights that Mesa would leave behind.
(For reference, United has hired twice as many pilots as Mesa has, YTD.)
