Aside from the obvious being where you want to live and bases…if you don’t have to commit until December, there may be more clarity on a SW contract by then. Widebodies, upgrade times, and rates all favor AA at the moment, but they are a contract ahead right now. Despite the differences in financial positions of the companies, both seem willing to furlough. SWAPA may knock it out of the park on rates and work rules this cycle, but if widebodies and early upgrade is important to you then AA may be the way to go. There are lots of work rule differences that may be deal breakers or insignificant, depending on your situation and what you value. If you have friends at each, specific questions about what you want to do and what it would look like there is a good way to go. Most nights at home, fewest days working, max pay, blocks of work/blocks off, fly certain airplane or to certain destinations…all these and countless more are unique goals that if taken as a top priority might push you one direction or another.
