That's just because the company and the Union say that sick leave is a negotiated benefit. The company can't have it both way's, say it's valuable during negotiations, then say it's not a negotiated benefit when you want to use it. In fact this California Kin care is a demonstration of that, and even the union didn't get it right in the contract. CA kin care is not 30 hours a year, its 1/2 of your allotted sick time. So by our new contract, 36 hours is our new usage but the union said the other bases get 30. They are flat out ignorant of the law.

So yeah we can disagree about our definition of a negotiated benefit. Cheers.

PS. Id be much more understanding on a negotiated cap on sick leave if the company offered some form of buyout for it.
