Lack of positive control transfer has cause so many accidents, particularly in training, OE type flights, or joy riding with a GA pilot trying to show off.
One thing I have always insisted on when flying with another pilot, outside of the airline, is their acknowledgment of who is PIC, what is the phrase to transfer control, and if I am flying with a GA pilot who is not professional, I tell them to immediately relinquish the controls if they hear me say “ I HAVE THE AIRCRAFT”. Often time with GA types, I get a strange look, as if they’re thinking…”well that’s a little dramatic…nothing is gonna happen.”
It has kept me alive through 45 years of many odd types and weird situations that develop, including one numbskull that stalled a DC3 with me in the right seat, during a PC.
