Well, if the company isn’t going to make a profit for awhile it’ll cost them virtually nothing to modify the contract to give the pilots substantial profit sharing once they do make a profit. It’s currently still a competitive market out there for pilots, regardless of what else is going on. And Pratt&Whitney is taking a $3 billion hit themselves, in large part to compensate airlines that are suing them for selling a defective product. To the extent P&W is part of the problem, they can also be part of the solution.
