Old system:
I get a call for a GS for tomorrow, with a batch size of 1. 5 pilots before me have already been called, meaning coverage started well over an hour ago. None have accepted yet.
I need an hour or so to rearrange life plans before I can commit, so I wait and don’t respond to the GS. 4 more pilots are called over the next hour. None of them choose to accept either. After the 4th pilot has been called, I determine that I’m able to fly it and accept the GS out of my window. Once that pilot’s window expires, the GS is awarded to me.
New system:
I get a call for a GS along with 200 other pilots. Pilots #1 - 70 need more time to coordinate, are stuck in traffic, in a movie theater, asleep, or whatever else. Pilot #71 accepts the green slip, and the whole thing is over in 12 minutes.
The green slip that would have gone to pilot #6 now goes to pilot #71. I see it almost every day in my category.
