This brings up a really good point. What is more important to you: spending your last, say, 20 years in the top 20% of the seniority list or the last, say, 2 years in the top 1% of the seniority list?

Personal preference could dictate either one is a great option. But it's definitely worth considering when making such a big decision... or just accept that the future of a particular airline is unknowable and that YMMV...
