The two go! Airlines pilots accused of falling asleep on a short hop from Honolulu to the Big Island last February have been fired.
KGMB9 first uncovered this story after radar tracks showed Flight 1002 overshooting Hilo by 15 miles. Air traffic controllers frantically tried to reach the crew for almost 20 minutes, before the plane eventually turned back to Hilo and landed safely. The pilots were taken off flying duties pending an investigation.
A spokesperson for Mesa Airlines, the parent company of go!, released a statement to KGMB9, "After a thorough internal investigation into the incident on February 13 in which go! Flight 1002 overflew the airport at Hilo, Mesa has terminated the employment of both pilots involved."
KGMB9's Stacy Loe has been investigating the incident, and has other new details about what happened in the cockpit that morning. Look for her exclusive reports Thursday on
