Agreed, and to that point, it takes a significant amount of initiative and time investment on behalf of the recommendor to get the candidate the M&G and then attend it with them. That says something.
At the M&G you intruduce your candidate and then tell the CP why you believe they would make a good United pilot. Then it's the candidates turn. The Chief will ask them a few 'interview' type questions, and offer some suggestions should they get an interview invite. 20-30 min tops and a great 'practice interview'. That's how my experience was anyway.
My understanding, which comes directly from a interviewer/recruiter friend is a thumbs up from the CP M&G adds a defined amount of points to a candidates' application score just like a type rating, etc. The significant weighting of a successful M&G can easily push a canditate over the top and get them the call.
Any active United pilot can do one per year unless that's changed. I was still on probation when I recommended my buddy who got hired.
