That’s not really true anymore. I know several people hired at legacy carriers with 121 failures within 12 months of the legacy interview.

I’ll also add that early in my career I had similar suspicions about regional airline training departments. Actually one of them was republic about 17 years ago. Having subsequently been employed in the training department at a regional and worked along side all the legendary “bad” examiners and instructors I found all the conspiracies about management intentionally failing people to be false.

Most of the stories originated with poor performance on the part of the applicant. Most but not all. I did see one APD that was off the rails. That situation was resolved by management.

By far the most common truth is the applicant honestly busted. Management gets no benefit failing people.
