Besides earning a little bigger paycheck, I do not see the appeal of flying WB as a new hire and being stuck on reserve and being an IRL officer. I would rather take a NB FO spot on the 737 or Airbus and spend my time flying build up flying experience to either move over to the left seat on the NB or wait and have enough seniority to hold a line on the WB. When I was hired in 98 my only options were sitting sideways on the 727, DC-10, and FO on the 737-322/522 I was able to get plenty of flying in on the NB. Siting watching a screen at cruise over the NA just not that appealing to me if I was a new hire. Maybe it’s so they can say I am a pilot on the 787 or 777 vs. saying I fly 737’s or the A319/320/21.
