Does anyone know if 787 at EWR is still attainable for new hires? Saw it all the time on the drop list but have not seen it in a while.
- Can someone please tell me what a reserve schedule on this equipment at this base looks like? How many days do you actually get off in a month.
- Do reserves typically get used alot?
- Does the new contract allow us to drop reserve days? And if so, do people actually pick them up?

Besides earning a little bigger paycheck, I do not see the appeal of flying WB as a new hire and being stuck on reserve and being an IRL officer. I would rather take a NB FO spot on the 737 or Airbus and spend my time flying build up flying experience to either move over to the left seat on the NB or wait and have enough seniority to hold a line on the WB. When I was hired in 98 my only options were sitting sideways on the 727, DC-10, and FO on the 737-322/522 I was able to get plenty of flying in on the NB. Siting watching a screen at cruise over the NA just not that appealing to me if I was a new hire. Maybe it’s so they can say I am a pilot on the 787 or 777 vs. saying I fly 737’s or the A319/320/21.

Sure, if someone hasn’t flown a lick of 121. I would recommend going to cut their teeth on the NB…. But naw, this isn’t 1998 anymore lol.

For the record, I’ll just add that first year pay is actually identical no matter what you fly… so that bigger paycheck doesn’t kick in until year two.

That’s correct. Also, keep in mind your paycheck might be even smaller on the WBs first year since you most probably won’t break guarantee. As a NB FO you will be a line holder most probably during your first year and have higher credit lines. Hence a higher paycheck than the WB FOs in your first year.
