Shot Term Disability starts day 1. 50% of you pay and 10% extra if you pay $14 a month. use whatever sick leave you want to augment for 180 days. Then at the end of 180 days you can transition to Long Term, 50%, until 65 or mandatory retirement, no restrictions. But we have an option to not go on Long Term and continue to use sick leave until we run out. We can accumulate 1000 hours of sick leave.

I only know this because I have been dealing with thyroid cancer and have been on and off disability for 5 years.
