Assuming it was a registered weapon, can't see any reason he would be fired for "forgetting" he had a weapon in his bag.....anymore than the FedEx pilot who did the same a few years back should have been fired.

Some counseling and time off seems more appropriate to me.

Story sure doesn't make it seem like he was trying to hide the gun to sneak it through.
