United did not drop Max 10’s from their fleet plans
United is simply developing an alternate fleet plan without the Max 10 incase something happens in the future. It’s a backup plan that most likely won’t ever get used.
United’s Max 10’s orders are now 5+ years delayed from their original schedule. When they asked SK about his backup plan he admitted he didn’t have one but they’re working on one. A320 orders are backfilled for almost a decade so they won’t be switching Max’s for Neo’s. It’s certainly not a simple fix and it’s not a “nothing to see here” as much as you’d like that to be.
