It's all perception. What you say is rote and rehearsed is just good standardization training. I don't know about 121 scheduled domestic but in the non scheduled international world, the variety of destinations definitely keeps things interesting and the standardization keeps us alive.
All of that aside,
IF I were to get bored, I would rather get bored in a cockpit than get bored in a cubicle any day. Enough said.
