I used to play this approximation game. Now I use Brokeragelink to buy FSKAX (total market fund) and done. Simpler than trying to keep that other method balanced.
That also works very well. I have another account that is all S&P 500 index due to poor fund choices, so the small/mid index in the 401k helps me maintain my overall portfolio targets.
