If you are willing to roll the dice on SC, then yes it is a good strategy that I have utilized before for the same reasons of avoiding especially bad trips. Correct that unless they cut your SC short (or you have a YS in), it is a min of 18hrs between end of SC and start of next assignment.
I've been on the back side of that as well. For example, I thought I wouldn't get assigned a particularly bad trip because there were 4 or so in front of me, only to get assigned said trip because all 4 in front of me got SC the day prior (ending <18hrs to report).
Great, thanks! Seemed to have worked. Obviously a gamble with the short call, but the RAP starts 5 hours before the last flight leaves and I have only been called on one of the last 18 short calls I have had, so we will see...
