This is not correct. SRH "Preference Qualifiers If Needed to Fly or for Short Call" (Most recent edition page 65): "...the preference is treated identially to a YS and the pilot's qualifiers and quantifiers will be considered..." Also the last paragraph on page 66.

I don't have personal anecdite for this situation for a SC, but I aboslutely do for trip covereage. There is no mechanism in the contract that differentiates between the two. An "If Needed" is a YS IF you are, in fact, needed (as delineated in my earlier post), which it seems by what he wrote that he was.

20Fathoms, call CS and ask if you were identified as "needed" on the "Short Call Management List". And then ask them why your "If needed" was not honored. It doesn't matter if they have to unwind 20 other assigments and re-notify 19 people. It must be done properly. IF you were needed, and they don't fix it, call the CPO. Even if they are closed, there is a CP on call. I ahve called them on a Sunday evening before and made them fix it. Good Luck.
