Actually, people have been severely injured in the aisle seat while people are taking bags out of the overhead for no reason other than being impatient. I can only imagine being hit by a luggage works bag.
The one time I saw it happen, the passenger was “waiting their turn” in their seat, then stood up and smashed the person behind them in the face while removing their bag, causing bleeding.
I vastly prefer it when the people in the aisle seats stand up as soon as the seatbelt sign is off and begin the process of (carefully) taking their bags out of the overhead. Deplaning takes long enough.
