IDK much about this situation but I thought it was pretty standard nowdays that FO flys and captain runs qrh and does coordination with ground, FAs, PAX, and keeps a big picture view of the situation. I trust the FO's to fly, hell I trust them to make decisions but its my name as PIC and I wanna be the one fully focused on the plan, the coordination and the big picture. Not flying while half my brain is making sure the FO is doing the qrh right, letting the FA's/pax know what I want them to know and coordination with company.
I get wanting everything to a company standard but seems like he did captain stuff and got the job done. If the FO's got the plane dialed in and comfortable then hell yeah let em keep flying while captain does some captain stuff.
This article is a little misleading. There is no reason the FO couldn’t fly—in training we routinely will transfer controls and delegate tasks. The issue is the landing. Company policy says captain does it. I believe in this case he decided against that. That being said I don’t know enough other details.
