but large airports should have the runway to expect in the clearance unless they plan to leave it up to us which one to pick. Or at least like Mecca does where the runway is based on the Sid and they give us that info

We have a program now, thanks to CASC and Delta Flight Safety/Training and Standards where we bring the controllers into the sim. So far I think we've touched ATL and NY TRACONS. They are shown what we get to do in the cockpit for our normal daily ops. Then we start in with runway changes. Departure and arrival. We show them late runway changes for both as well. They get to see all the operational steps and company policies we must follow in order to be in our own compliance as well as theirs. It's a pretty eye openeing experience for them to say the least. It hasn't seemed to have any effect yet, but we're hoping the more controllers we can cylce thru this the better they will begin to understand or at least have some idea about what goes on when they change around arrivals/depratures/runways on us, especially last minute (looking at you BOS). One controller thought, before they watched a sim, that it was easy for us to just flop to another runway. Wasn't until they saw the work load required did they finally understand what that does to us and the threats it exposes us to. We also discuss the frequency issue. If you're going to tell me on the 10-9 page that the tower freq for runway XX is going to be XXX.XX, then just tell me to contact tower, we do and it turns out that tower is not there they are using the freq for runway YY. Same can be said for places with multiple ground control freqs. If they are going to play that game, at least have the decency to tell us what THAT freq is when it's not according to the 10-9.
