For me, the have to make two hours checking it right at SC start isn't worth the grief. I've been used once off SC since they started this use all SCs thing, that was for a trip reporting at SC1+15, that they didn't bother to call me until SC 0+30 for. I can't make EWR in 45 if I was already suited up, so I just go when called and eventually get there.

It was a JFK international departure but early in the evening so I got full on rush hour fun.

2+18 to the emplo lot once I started driving. Which was about 30 minutes after their call. Then another half hour because bus left as I was parking and construction.

When I was flying up from Virginia, I used 2 hour NC all the time and my backup flight was picked off of what gets in closest to SC+2
I'm not NYC so I hadn't given this much thought but, you would be afforded the additional time if you air commuted to the "wrong" airport so there's really no risk. In fact it would give you greater flexibility. You are NC until SC starts, then check the schedule. If there's a trip from EWR I could be hanging at my beach house on long island 2 hours from JFK. Or if LGA, I'm in Atlantic city at the craps table. When you were in VA you planned your commute and a backup that was most convienent at any of the 3. The SC doesn't tie you to an airport but the region. As for grief, really? You make a call to say you are NC when assigned the SC. That's litterally the only communication. Set you alarm for SC start time and log into icrew and view your schedule, done. Since you used NC as an air commuter, there's NO difference. East Hampton to Newark could take your entire remaining SC window. Not your problem.
