Shirking an assignment or getting paid double are nice side benefits. What I personally want is for the company to use the proper tools that we negotiated…to pay people to be on airport standby, and not get it for free. VAS and standby rotations put properly-compensated volunteers where they want to be, and keep non-vols where they also want to be (presumably not working). A little less non-contractual reserve usage also generates a little more GS activity for those who want that.
