It is only required to check your schedule per PWA 23.S.1.d. Nothing except assignment of rest requires acknowledgement per PWA 23.S.5.f.1.
I think I see what you were trying to say (though it read differently to me, like what I responded to). But I still respectfully disagree. 23.S.1.d references 12.G.8., which states, "In order to determine what, if any, assignment has been placed on their schedule for the period following their release, a reserve pilot is required to check their schedule via DBMS/VRU after completion...". CS will not call you, because you were
required to check for an assignment.
It is implicit in the required check, and a de facto acknowledgment. What different is going to happen if you don't acknowlege? Absolutely
