The company populates OT on the 13th at 9am - and just about EVERY pairing there could be covered by reserves. Picking it up (or not doing so) is affecting the company very little outside of some IROP situation.
Premium is different because of the last minute nature of it - that trip pairing may be in jeopardy of not being filled and being cancelled. It isn't a definite canx every time as there was a time when the company offered premium with enough reserves to cover (but would most likely be delayed).
Not sure what the current philosophy of the SOC is now.
Last minute in nature.. sure. But different than picking up OT? They’d just staff more reserves.. still cheaper than a pay raise. If it’s a principle you were standing on I’m not sure how the two would be different except that premium pays more
