A lot of non starters in what was proposed. The change in MCO alone would cancel out any pay increase for anyone who works their vacation. The Decrease in MPG would only facilitate the already low productivity of our schedules. The most insulting thing to me are the terms for an early opener. which means nothing because they will drag their feet no matter what. Connecting it to not just four quarters "free cash flow" which they did not bother to define but also "Cash used in Investment activities". that my friends is where the real middle finger is. we could have four quarters of stellar profits yet still no early opener because "the money is tied up in other investments".
With all of that said I hope the NC can temper their emotions (the Foxtrot Uniform was a little over the top) we all knew it was going to be a extreme low anchor. Don't let them get you rattled. Emotional people make poor decisions. Although nothing of any substance was to be had. This still feels like some kind of progress.
One of the funniest things was a refusal to accept that two pilots are required in the cockpit. Which I guess would mean at some point BB is looking to put some 2500 hr wonder pilots up front all by their lonesome while never asking the question "Who is going to mentor the 1500 hr pilot to bring them up to speed"
I think ALPA has the wrong argument about a two pilot cockpit. The reasons are innumerable, but the biggest one I see is the dynamic of a Master and an Apprentice. 99% of all the knowledge I have about flying and operations was not just passed down, but also passed up from the people I was flying with. I still learn things from FO's I fly with to this day. Weather it's what to expect for taxi in JFK or some trick they learned from a different Captain. By having two pilots in the cockpit we have an opportunity to not just crosscheck each other ,but also learn. This dynamic provides a stabilizing force within the pilot group which I feel if lost may cause this company to go off the rails.
As somebody with a healthy amount of Single Pilot Ops. I can say standards go down the tubes real fast. We all carve our own way eventually ,but it's a long hard road with a lot of mishaps along the way. Not something I would recommend for passenger ops. The overall lack of support around here would make it especially dangerous.
