Supposedly the 777 has been looked at recently due to ever higher fuel costs. It has awesome performance numbers, something like what the MD-11 can carry but around 1500 nm further. The difficulty lies in finding cargo conversion slots, not the a/c themselves. Just ask FedEx about the 757 conversion, which has taken longer then expected. Very interesting times in the cargo a/c arena.
I'm wondering if UPS were to approach Boeing and research winglets on the 777 and then fly it using re-disptach flight plans on long haul flights like the last 3 airlines I worked at, if that would jack up the range vis-a-vis the MD11, to 2000 miles greater. 2000 miles is approx. the same distance between Baltimore and LAX.
Oh well, two aspirins and back to bed, I think that was a roofie, not viagara that I took last night.
