Yes, a single day of reserve by itself is nearly completely unusable for SC. Most people don’t have a single day of LC by itself. The most common ways to do it in PBS is after training or some other sort of work period (like Velvet), or stranded at the end of a bid period where you are either REG the next month or RES and bid the first day off. And of course post-PBS you can end up stranding days via PD/PB/APD/IVD.
Outside that most everyone going into one day of LC is doing so off a stretch of LC, so even going into a golden X day you can be hit with a 0600-1159 SC (or earlier) and the auto-release from SC at 1200 is irrelevant.
Also completely irrelevant is having a golden X day BEFORE starting a stretch of LC. That is still simply a non-fly day and subject to those applicable pre 18 hour provisions.
