Even a few spots down the list will have a significant effect on quality of life. It’s not going to take much at all.
Over 300 throughout the continental US. Hawaiian already has 200 pilot positions based on the mainland between CVG and SEA. More to come as the 787 moves over. There is a greater risk that we have to force displace HNL based pilots to SEA than there is that a legacy Hawaiian pilot takes a captain spot on the 737 from you. As 787s move into SEA after SLI when the fences drop(probably soon on the FO side given how many positions there will be on that fleet and how few people seem interested at the moment) junior 737 captains will have the opportunity to bid senior 787 FO, more than negating the potential moves of Hawaiian pilots taking 737 positions.
Life changes when you have widebodies at your airline. Captain upgrades go more junior, and mid seniority people get better opportunities to make more money while having easier work lives by moving to widebody FO. Things will probably be better for Alaska pilots in 2-4 years than they would have been without the purchase of Hawaiian.
All that having been said, make sure the gains in the JCBA offset a potential downside from an SLI. Vote accordingly.
