Consider this: A smart pilot can be overseas and joying an extended stretch of days off with the family and still keep slips in to run the PCS clock out with auto-accepts helping force a trip to 23M7 coverage and scoop up some 23M7 pay.
Your negotiators likely wish you hadn't posted that. I can't believe that you are actually celebrating the fact that many self-absorbed sorts are actively--and proudly admitting to--taking steps to Gumm up the system, with zero intention or ability (being in Europe and all) to fly the slips they "claim" they want. This essentially forces the company to take steps that nuke provisions of our hard-won PWA.
"But it's my PWA right!" you bleat. Yes it is--and apparently the company gets to claim the same with their 23.M.7 steps that give 23.M.7 free money to super-senior sorts, while egging on a Hunger Games inspired IA free for all that rewards the junior and--much worse--the side dealers who are just as proud as how THEY get to nuke the PWA trip coverage process with their "hey I'm in the lounge now, whattaya got for me to fly as an IA?"
I still put 2/3 of this entire mess on the company, Their antiquated IT, lack of robust automation and understaffed and overwhelmed (and not very knowledgeable) schedulers make what is a complex situation in a best case scenario a fiasco. They could save a lot of hassle with steps that
they could take. I have little to zero sympathy for the company side.
However, I actually like our PWA, and
all the provisions of it--notably the correct trip coverage process. Taking steps that torpedo the detailed trip coverage process, so some super senior sorts can get numerous 23.M.7 payments, while simultaneously enabling the side-dealers, is not cool at all. "But hey, the council chair says he will have some 'uncomfortable' conversations with side dealers." So there's that. I am sure that will solve everything!
The recent Quick Slip MOU will eventually solve a lot of this, I hope. I'm guessing that if it does, a lot of the Auto Accepters will be the first to complain.
Rant over.
