That was a horrible decision.
That’s because you didn’t live long enough under the old system to see how ruthlessly god awful it was. Try being junior in back 2021 and before…
CBA 2022 Reserve is Lightyears better than the old system. The addition of ADG and 100% dead credit, made a huge difference, so you’re able to rack up credit much faster. And having a defined assignment hierarchy as well, for LC so that seniority is actually worth something now. At least you can attempt to commute on this new system, no one ever did on the old one. My biggest gripe under the old system was - if you got called on day 1 of 5. They would just keep adding **** each day to your schedule, teasing you until you came home on the last day and it was absolutely demoralizing. The number of 5-day and 6-day trips I would end up on - that started out with a simple turn- was astonishing. It’s rare your assignment changes once they call you out now. You talk about not being able to plan your rest, it’s laughable to me in hindsight. I remember when the chief pilots would chase harass us about too many fatigue calls or sick calls lol. The real proof is that my spouse loves me being on reserve and it pays better too. And don’t forget being able to pick up on your days off as well now, that HUGE. We never had that option when I was a new hire, got big medical bills? Suck it up and get a payment plan. At least you have the option to hustle on and make $$$ on reserve now. I wish they’d bring back and utilize the “premium reserve blocks” too, it was so much easier than competing for premium scraps all day. Having choices is a good thing, and the more for pilots the better. It ain’t perfect but it’s better than the old way by a country mile. Sorry that someone’s gotta be junior and suck it up for everyone else though.
