My understanding is CNO is not legal notification of a LC trip assignment. Now that I'm < 18 hrs to report, I can call scheduling and they would be required to remove the rotation. Is my thinking correct ?
No. 30 HR rest period counts as a "non-fly day" and therefore you are responsible to ascertain any rotations placed on your schedule during the non-fly day. No notification (live person, or CNO) is required for rotations reporting between 10-18 hours after the ends of your non-fly day. Can't tell from your post if this trip is in that window. It seems like the CNO was about 28 hours before report? Is that correct? They will probably call once you are back in LC status.

Edit: Re-reading, it seems like they never called prior to 18 hours, so no valid notification. Calling them and asking to remove it is the wrong approach, in my opinion. Wait for them to call you and then advise you were never properly notified.
