Now if CAs were getting junior manned, extended, etc. and FOs were just gobbling up OT, I could see the argument. However, I haven't seen those occurrences mentioned in any of the threads.
Evaluating OT during negotiations is a non-starter. And since one of the prevailing issues at F9 is that we spend half (if not more) of our time in negotiations, it's almost safe to say that our flying hours (and lack of OT) is the norm. So, people horde it. It's only human nature.
And, given that nature, it's virtually impossible to get 100% participation in a "worthy" cause. Even if we had 99% of the pilots NOT pick up OT (which we don't have), that's still 20 pilots that will. And those 20 would be enough. And even suggesting this is actually against the law. Hell, we have people who have computer programs that do it for them.
My stance has always been it's pointless to try and call anyone out here. Let's just play the process out the strike if/when we can. If we end up not being able to, then I suspect that will be the end of F9 as most people would just leave.
In the end, there is a balancing act that will happen one way or another.
