Any JetBlue attempt to acquire Spirit is a threat to the Big 3 and the government will use the Clayton Act against JetBlue at their behest.
Frontier basically has no money or equity, and will exhaust itself trying to assimilate Spirit, then will be ground down by the other airlines until it liquidates and removes the entire ULCC sector from the industry.
JetBlue will not and cannot acquire Spirit.
United did not lobby to stop the Jetblue Spirit merger. Quite the opposite. Kirby supported it publicly numerous times and rallied against the DOJ and FTC decision to challenge the merger.. Here is one of his quotes at an aviation conference "To say an airline can't combine, to be fifth largest in the world when scale matters, if I was Robin, I'd be spitting mad. That does not seem fair."
