Very case by case.
My wife, who was recovering from brain surgery ended up in the hospital for something else (tripped over dog, sprained ankle)
I had already commuted up for a TOE trip going to Germany. I was in the NYC lounge, and went into the CP office.
Neighbor took her to ER.
"since someone's taking care of her, unless its going to cause child care issues, you can't be personal dropped, and if you go home it will be considered a failure to report, you cannot call out sick for this because YOU are not sick"
I was a new hire, on probation, and that was my first time ever dealing with the CPO. Hadn't even been here long enough to have my first New Hire meeting.
So it wasn't like I was a known problem child or something.
